A joint panel of commentators and historians will talk about how the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising might be commemorated. Full programme available from www.museum.ie/events # Between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The National Transport Museum Heritage Depot, Howth Demesne, Howth, will be open to the public – Admission €3 Adult & €1.50 Child / Senior Citizen. The Museum will also be open on Sunday April 29th. # At 3.30 p.m. there is a 60-minute Public Tour ‘The Top Ten!‘ in the Museum of Archaeology and History, Kildare Street. Tickets €2 are available from the Museum Shop. U16’s free. No booking required - wheelchair accessible. Moving to Sunday April 29th the following events take place – # At 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. there are 30-minute ‘Highlights of the Collection‘ tours in the National Gallery of Ireland, Clare Street. # At 2.30 p.m. Philib McCabe will give a 60-minute talk ‘Honey: Food or Medicine‘ in the Museum of Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar. Booking required – call 094-9031751 or Email: educationtph@museum.ie # At 3 p.m. events Dr. Malcolm Sen will present his lecture ‘The Literary Scene in Dublin in the Early 20th Century‘ in the lecture theatre of the National Gallery of Ireland, Clare Street. # Also at 3 p.m. there is a free-guided Public Tour in the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin Castle. This tour is repeated at 4 p.m.
On Monday April 30th, # At 8 p.m. Tom Hodson will present his lecture on ’Military Paintings and the Chester Beatty Collection‘ to the Clondalkin Historical Society in Aras Lorcáin, Watery Lane, Clondalkin – all welcome. Advancing to Wednesday May 2nd there are 2 events taking place – # At 1 p.m. there is a free guided Public Tour in the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin Castle. # At 8 p.m. the Cill Dara Historical Society will hold a member’s ‘Movies / Memories / Memorabilia Night‘ in the Kildare Education Centre, (the old Parochial House ), Kildare Town.
Continuing to Friday May 4th, # At 1 p.m. there is a 30-minute Curator’s Talk ‘Witness to War – The War of Independence in their Own Words‘ with Brenda Malone in the Museum of Decorative Arts and History, Collins Barracks, Benburb Street. Advancing to Saturday May 5th there are three events taking place – # At 11.30 a.m. the ‘Garret Fitzgerald Commemoration‘ one-day steam train trip from Dublin to Mullingar and return, organised by the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland and the Irish Railway Record Society, will depart from Dublin Connolly, returning there by 7.30 p.m. Tickets are €35 Adult and €25 U16’’s / OAP’s and inclusive of transfer by coach to /from and admission to Belvedere House.
